India vs Australia: Pitch Report

The Dr. Y.S. Rajashekar Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium surface has historically been friendly to batsmen, with great batting tracks. However, it has also helped spinners, and the low bounce in the second innings has made run-scoring difficult. The dew factor could have an effect on both teams, particularly the side bowling second. The recent matches at the location have favored the chasing team. So the team winning the toss would love to chase here. At this stadium, the average first-inning score is 119.

India Team News & Playing 11

IND Team News

Of the team who played in Sunday’s final of the 2023 Cricket World Cup, we can expect only the skipper of this side, Suryakumar Yadav, to also take the field in this game. Overall there is a very youthful feel to the squad with all the players hoping to press for a place in the 2024 T20 World Cup squad in June.

IND Key Players

  • Suryakumar Yadav – The 33 year old captain did not get many opportunities during the recent World Cup but is far more comfortable in this format and will bat with no fear.
  • Yashasvi Jaiswal – The young left-handed opener has already made a century in both T20I and Test cricket. A very impressive record considering he only made his international debut in July.
  • Arshdeep Singh – The left-arm pace bowler will swing the ball early on in the innings before focusing on yorker length deliveries later on. He has a strike-rate of 13.5 in T20Is.
  • Ravi Bishnoi – The spinner will have watched the Cricket World Cup and seen how the likes of Adam Zampa caught the eye. This is his opportunity to make sure he is in the India squad for the next big tournament.

IND Team Form

India have not only won their six matches in this tournament but have won nine of their last ten ODIs with their only defeat coming against Australia when they were already 2-0 up in the three-match series.

AUS Team News

Although there could be as many as six of Australia’s successful World Cup players in the XI for this game, that number has reduced over the last 48 hours after David Warner was withdrawn from the series with Aaron Hardie taking his place in the squad.

AUS Key Players

  • Glenn Maxwell – The 35 year old batting all-rounder already had a large following of adoring supporters in India before his remarkable 201 not out against Afghanistan earlier this month. He is a brilliant attacking batter.
  • Marcus Stoinis – The all-rounder is more comfortable in T20 cricket than in ODIs and he will be desperate to make an impact after losing his place in the XI during the World Cup.
  • Sean Abbott – The bowling all-rounder featured in only one of the World Cup games earlier this month but he is a T20 specialist and is a consistent wicket taker at this level.
  • Adam Zampa – The 31 year old spinner produced the most wickets of any slow bowler in the Cricket World Cup and he will be looking forward to bowling on this surface.

AUS Team Form

Australia have won their last six completed T20Is and will also bring some World Cup winners to Visakhapatnam for this match.

India vs Australia Head to Head

Although the teams have gone head to head in plenty of ODIs over the last couple of months, this will be their first T20I against each other since September 2022 when India won a three-match series 2-1.

India vs Australia Top Team Batsmen

We are backing Suryakumar Yadaav, Tilak Varma, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ruturaj Gaikwad with the bat for India. Right-handed opener Gaikwad will be the vice-captain of the side and the 26 year old will be looking to bring his impressive IPL numbers into this format where he has already hit a half-century. Varma is expected to be a star across all formats for years to come for India and he hit 55 not out from only 26 balls in his last T20I against Bangladesh last month.

For Australia, Travis Head, Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis and Tim David are our batting choices. Head can bat anywhere in the top order across all formats and he showed his talent under pressure with 137 in Sunday’s final to win the tournament. David is a fine T20 batter who always scores his runs at a high strike-rate. He has a top score of 92 not out in T20Is.

India vs Australia Top Team Bowlers

For India, Arshdeep Singh, Avesh Khan, Ravi Bishnoi and Axar Patel are our bowling selections. Slow left-arm spinner Patel is a fine international player across all formats and has best T20I figures of 3/9. Khan bowls with good pace and has been an impressive IPL bowler over recent seasons. He will relish the chance to go up against some big name Australian players.

Adam Zampa, Marcus Stoinis, Sean Abbott and Jason Behrendorff are our picks with the ball for Australia. Behrendorff is a tall and experienced left-arm fast medium bowler who has taken wickets at international level and in the IPL. Stoinis has taken 106 T20 wickets across his career and has best T20I bowling figures of 3/18. He will bowl plenty of variations including slower balls.

India vs Australia Prediction

This will be an exciting game to get this series underway and the influx of new players in both sides will mean that there is no tiredness showing after the long Cricket World Cup. We expect spin bowling to be important and for neither team to be able to dominate the other in either innings. Our prediction is for a close match but we are backing Australia to win.
